Second Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Melissa Morgan is pleased to announce that local attorney Denton W. Aud has been sworn-in as the newest Associate Judge in the Second Circuit. Attorney Aud formerly served as White County State's Attorney before being selected by a majority vote of the Circuit Judges to fill the Associate Judge vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Judge Mark Shaner in December. The swearing-in ceremony took place this morning in White County where White County Resident Judge T. Scott Webb presided and administered the Oath of Office in the presence of a crowded courtroom of family, friends, and colleagues. Among those in attendance were Supreme Court Justice David Overstreet, Second Circuit Chief Judge Melissa Morgan, Gallatin County Resident Judge Thomas Foster, Edwards County Resident Judge Michael Valentine, Crawford County Resident Judge Christopher Weber, and former, now retired, White County Resident Judge Thomas Sutton.
Judge Webb shared stories with the crowd and recalled experiences working with Judge Aud over the years. Following the ceremony, Judge Webb stated, “It has been a privilege having Denton as my State's Attorney for the past 11 years. It is a joy to now have him as a colleague; and I was honored to administer his oath of office. He has served the people of White County with kindness, fairness, and integrity. I am confident that exemplary service will continue as he serves the people of the Second Judicial Circuit. He will be an asset to the entire Circuit.”
Following his swearing-in, Judge Aud commented on the events of the morning, stating, “I’m extremely humbled and thankful for the confidence that the Judges of the Second Circuit have placed in me by appointing me to this position. Today was a special moment to be sworn in by my mentor, Judge Webb, with my wife, Alex, at my side and while being surrounded by so many wonderful family, friends, and colleagues in attendance. I’m looking forward to getting started in this new role.”
