Wayne County Resident Judge Visits Local Schools In Celebration of Abraham Lincoln

In conjunction with the February celebration of the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln, Wayne County Resident Circuit Judge Matthew Vaughn participated in a reading project of the Illinois Judges’ Association for elementary school children. Judge Vaughn joined many judges across the state who made classroom appearances to read and discuss the history of President Lincoln on Thursday, February 12 when Court was not in session due to the holiday. The program is aimed at children in grades K-4 to encourage the appreciation, value, and enjoyment of reading.

Judge Vaughn commented on his involvement with the program stating, "It was my pleasure to participate in the Illinois Judges’ Association (IJA) "Judges Go to School Day" on February 12, 2026. I met with the teachers and students in first, second, and third grades at North Side School in Fairfield, and read Abe Lincoln's Hat to the kids. The IJA donated 10 books to the school, and I was proud to deliver these to the classrooms."
