The Second Judicial Circuit’s “Lawyer in the Library” Program for Hamilton County has announced upcoming appointment dates through the June. Local Attorney Shannon Appleton is scheduled to meet with interested parties at the McCoy Memorial Public Library located at 103 South Washington Street, McLeansboro (across the street from the Hamilton County Courthouse) once a month beginning January 17 and continuing through June.
The program provides a licensed attorney for 20-minute appointment periods to assist individuals with free legal coaching, document review, assistance with electronic filing, and referrals to additional services. These free services are made possible by grant funding obtained by Second Circuit Chief Judge Melissa Morgan from the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice and the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts.
Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Appointments can now be scheduled between 12:00 pm (noon) - 2:00 pm on the following Fridays: January 17, February 14, March 14, April 18, May 9, and June 6, 2025.
To register in advance, please contact the McCoy Memorial Public Library at (618) 643-2125. Participants are asked to bring all paperwork related to their legal questions with them and sign in at the desk upon arrival at the library. Due to limited appointments, persons can only be seen once every 30 days.
